This week in class we were very lucky to have the opportunity to hear from a guest speaker. Jesse Miller visited our online lecture to present to us future educators the problems that can be associated with technology in the classroom. His goal throughout his presentation was to have us become mindful of our social media and overall online imprint.

Jesse made an extremely important point in his presentation about how the internet will forever be public and permanent. It is important that we have viewed our online profiles and are careful of what we put online in the first place. I was not aware of the fact that all districts do full online searches of you before offering you a position in one of their schools. Jesse asked us each to google our names with the city we live in and see what information, posts, or photos pop up. I, luckily, do not have a very strong imprint on social media so not much came up with my name other than pictures from when I used to play basketball. Jesse outlined that social media use by educators has three potential critical audiences, these were: public/parents, staff, and students. As a teacher it is very important to be socially aware; therefore, it makes sense that we must also be aware of our online presence.

Jesse also covered digital consent in the classroom. He explained how it is very important that as educators we do not post anything online that shares informations about any of our students or colleagues without asking for permission. It is important to share with care and ensure that we always ask for consent .
